  10. 2021-10-05 · VIOLATIONCritical

This standard was evaluated as part of an investigation and found to be in violation. A caregiver did not use good judgment in the way he went about getting his glasses back from a child who had taken them from him. After speaking with children in care, It seems the children look at this caregiver as somewhat of a peer as well as caregiver. The caregiver must assert authority in the role of "caregiver" rather than roughhouse with the children in care to ensure they treat him with respect and do not treat him as they would another child in care. Children taking caregivers' glasses should not be something that happens frequently in the classroom where the caregiver has to physically take them back. The child must realize the authority given the caregiver and give them back himself. Management staff may have to help if the child does not cooperate and do this on his own.
